Being preapproved means we’ve reviewed your application and determined that you’re eligible for refinancing your existing vehicle loan, pending a final review of documents and vehicle information. To keep things moving and secure your offer, we’ve put together a quick guide with everything you need to know—including what documents to submit, how to upload them, and why timing matters.
What Preapproval Means
Preapproval is a conditional offer based on the information you've already provided. While it’s not a final loan approval just yet, it gives you the confidence to move forward knowing your refinance is likely to be approved—pending document review. Refinancing can lead to real savings, simplify your finances, and give you more control over your loan terms.
Your preapproval is valid for 30 calendar days. To lock in your offer and avoid needing to reapply (which could result in different terms), we recommend completing the next steps as soon as possible.
What We Need From You
To move forward and finalize your refinance loan, we’ll need the following documents:
- Payoff Letter: This letter must come from your current lender and include the payoff amount, account number, and a valid payoff-through date (at least 10 calendar days out).
- Vehicle Registration: A copy of your current registration, issued by your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), that shows the vehicle is registered in your name.
- Vehicle Title: A copy of your vehicle title, showing ownership and any current lienholder. (If your current lender holds the title, that’s okay—we just need a copy of the front and back.)
- Proof of Insurance: We require active auto insurance that includes comprehensive and collision coverage. The insurance policy must list Grasshopper Bank, N.A. as the lienholder or loss payee.
- Valid Driver’s License: A current, non-expired driver’s license is required for all borrowers listed on the loan. You will need to make sure your photo and information are clear and legible when uploading.
Having these documents ready ensures a faster review and funding process, so you can begin benefiting from your new loan terms right away.
How to Upload Your Documents
You can upload these documents directly through our secure, application hub—the same place where you applied and received your initial preapproval. Here's how:
- Log in to the application hub using the same email address and password you used to apply.
- Look for your loan application status and click Continue or Let's Get Going.
- Follow the prompts to securely upload your files.

Why Timing Matters
Remember, your preapproval is only valid for 30 days from the date of issuance. If your application isn’t completed within that window, your offer will expire, and you’ll need to start the process again—which may result in a different rate or terms.
